About Janet Zalman

A Different Way to Think About Food — From Someone Who’s Spent Three Decades Studying It

Janet Zalman, M.S., L.N., is a licensed nutritionist in Washington, DC, whose Coaching for Results program has helped clients build lasting change for over 30 years.

Why I Do This Work

I’ve spent my career observing individuals struggle with unsustainable diets that produce short-term results before inevitably failing. That’s not a failure of willpower — it’s a failure of approach. Real change doesn’t come from a meal plan or a medication. It comes from understanding why you eat the way you do, and building something sustainable from there.

That belief is the foundation of everything I do.

My Background

I earned my M.S. in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport, with an academic foundation in biology alongside a background in counseling — which shapes how I think about behavior, not just food. Early in my career, I worked at a counseling center in New York City before transitioning into nutrition counseling, developing programs for physicians treating overweight, diabetic, and cardiovascular patients.

When I moved to Washington, DC I founded Zalman Nutrition Group, and I developed “Coaching for Results,” a personalized, three-phase program built around each client’s individual habits, triggers, and goals — not a one-size-fits-all plan.

My Approach

My work focuses on nutritional counseling with an emphasis on creating plans to lower your specific food cravings. This paradigm is built around identifying the nutritional & behavioral habits that drive eating — stress, boredom, routine — and then interrupting them at the source. That’s true whether a client is trying to lose weight for the first time, or navigating what comes during, next, or after GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro.

What Clients Say

Who I’ve Worked With

Over the years, I’ve developed nutrition and wellness programs and lecture series for organizations including CNN, UFCW (the Major Grocery Workers Union), Gryphon Technologies, the Cosmos Club, and the Australian Embassy — alongside individual clients across the Washington, DC area. Whether I’m working with a Fortune 500 team or a single client determined to change their relationship with food, the approach is the same: understand the person, not just the goal.

That belief is the foundation of everything I do.
